This is a unique collection of photographs showing women’s vast and varied relationship with India’s environmental resources – land, water, forests and biodiversity – and how this relationship is being affected by climate change. The photographs cover many States and especially focus on images of rural women in fragile and disaster-prone areas. The photo-documentation with its captions show how women have a relationship with natural resources that is different from men, how they bear a greater burden than men and are impacted by climate change in ways different from men. The photographs also show how women are initiating and participating in climate solutions. This publication has been done in collaboration with Climate Development and Knowledge Network (CDKN) as part of a research programme to make India’s State-level climate plans more gender responsive.
