A collection of research articles brought out by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) deals with the issue of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA). Climate change adaptation is an adjustment made in natural or human systems as a response to expected climatic changes. Disaster risk reduction forms an essential part of adaptation- it is the first line of defence against known climate change impacts, such as worsening droughts or increased flooding. The significant overlap between DRR and CCA needs to be decoded by policy makers and practitioners so that the relevant elements can be incorporated appropriately in regular development planning and implementation.
