India Water Partnership (IWP)

IWP

India Water Partnership (IWP) was established in the year 2001 with a mission to support action on sustainable and integrated development and management of water resources at national, regional river basin/sub basin and local levels in India. It is an initiative supported by the Global Water Partnership (GWP) headquartered at Stockholm, Sweden.

IWP works extensively on promoting Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) approach through workshops and consultations to address climate change adaptation with the support of its zonal partners across the nation. Besides this IWP also works on encouraging the farming community for use of innovative low cost technologies, endorses efforts on sustainable water management, integrated domestic water management and Area Water Partnerships (AWPs) for river basin management.

The crucial issue of conflict resolution on water sharing, inter-state trans-boundary water sharing issues and gender mainstreaming form the other primary areas which IWP focuses upon.  IWP seeks to also work as a think tank in its specialized area and be a networking platform for institutions and organizations that work on water issues.

Alternative Futures is a life-time member partner of IWP since 2006 and supports its endeavors on water resource management as AF itself has been working on water policy issues since its inception. Aditi Kapoor, Director (Policy Advocacy and Partnerships) at AF is also on the board of IWP.
